MUNI Biyaheng Lokal Quiz Night with Route +63 & Trail Adventours

#MUNIonThis: When does tourism become destructive to the environment? How can we sustain-ably travel and explore?

Summer Escape Summer has come and its all about taking a splash onto a great adventure in our beautiful tropical landscape. We took the  Biyaheng Lokal Quiz Night contestants dreaming of a summer escape to making it happen. Gathering 55 guests on a Friday night, the event, presented by  MUNI, together with Trail Adventours and Route +63, held on April 11 at 47 East, Katipunan, promoted mindful and responsible travel as the questions ventured into local destinations and landmarks while having fun and meeting new friends along the way.

We had more participants than expected as MUNI, together with Trail Adventours and Route +63, hosted our first ever Biyaheng Lokal Quiz Night! This event, held on April 11, 2014 at 47 East, Katipunan, promoted mindful and responsible travel as the questions ventured into local destinations and landmarks while having fun and meeting new friends along the way.

We mixed things up as participants were grouped together at random in teams of 4-5 ,who then have to give the best answers in four rounds of challenging yet fun trivia questions. The team with the highest scores each round won exciting prizes provided by MUNI and partners. P40,000 worth of prizes  were raffled away in between rounds, such as travel essentials, accessories and gift certificates from our partners: Culture Shock PH, Lagu, Moonleaf Tea ShopRuMe, Brown Belly Tala Luna , Kultura Kamp, Gouacheand Brownman Surf. One lucky guest even won a slot in a 4 day, 3 night Coron-Cuillon tour, courtesy of Kawil Tours!

Mindful Consumption

The environment is affected negatively or positively which each thing we purchase or consume. Knowing this, we can make more responsible actions. During the quiz, participants were able to discover the devastating effects sand erosion from the micro count of one person eroding 3 handfuls of sand per visit to the macro version that equates to truck loads of sand taken away every year at one beach only to know that using anti-sand-erosion towels by Lagu would be a solution.

Purchasing locally made and fair trade wearable goods like shoes from  Tala Luna that are made from our own cultural tribes and fabric capitals help continue the story and tradition of hand looming in the Philippines.

Choosing reusable products to handle your thingamabobs just like the colorful reusable bags from  RuMe and the durable and waterproof waxed bags from Gouache

Mindful Travel

Our friends at  Trail Adventours,  Route +63, Culture Shock PH, and Kultura Kamp believes in the innovation of our country’s tourism industry by getting tourists involved in the communities that they encounter, cultures that they experience, and the landscapes they visit.

As Mark Proust says, “The real voyage of discovery consists not in seeking new landscapes, but in having new eyes.”

We believe that in discovering the beauty found in our very own land, we also discover a little more about ourselves and our cultural identity. We also believe that the responsible traveler minimizes their impact on the environment as much as possible as they go through this journey of discovery. In doing so, we preserve this for future generations of travelers to come and experience for themselves.
